No. The Core LTD Plan is mandatory for all school districts/union locals who participate in the PEBT. The provincial government fully funds the Core LTD Plan.

Nothing. The provincial government provides 100% of the funding for this benefit. The school districts and members are not responsible for any part of the cost of this plan.

How much do the school districts and/or plan members have to pay for any other LTD plans?2024-04-26T01:04:18-04:00

The PEBT does not fund any of the other LTD plans. For a 10-month member who becomes disabled during the summer months when they are not at work, when does the 120-day elimination period for LTD benefits begin?2024-04-26T01:05:27-04:00

The 120-day elimination period for eligible 10-month members who become disabled when they are not at work during the summer months begins on september 1st.

If a member becomes disabled during the school year, when does the 120-day elimination period for LTD benefits begin?2024-04-26T01:06:12-04:00

If a member becomes disabled during the school year and has been actively at work, the 120-day elimination period starts on the first day the member is not able to work because of illness or injury. The elimination period will stop during summer months if the member is not scheduled to work (for example if a 10-month member became disabled June 10 and is usually off for the summer, the elimination period will accumulate from June 10 to June 30, and then resume accumulating on September 1st).

If a member has accumulated sick days that total more than the elimination period, can the member use these sick days?2024-04-26T01:07:26-04:00

Each school district/union local decides how sick days will be handled with regards to the PEBT LTD plan and the decision must apply to all members. A member cannot collect LTD payments and sick pay at the same time.
