Providing employee benefits to the unionized support staff in British Columbia’s public schools.

Under an employee life and health trust arrangement, an employer (and sometimes the employees) funds a trust account to provide employees with specified health and wellbeing benefits.

PEBT is focused on member health and well-being. It helps maintain the health and financial security of unionized support staff in BC public schools and ensures the programs meet members’ needs.

Under a jointly trusteed healthcare fund, an employer (and sometimes the employees) funds a trust account, along with investment income, to provide employees with specified health and wellbeing benefits.

These can include health, dental, disability and income protection benefits.

Joint Early Intervention Service

This program provides medical management and rehab services to members who are ill or injured to assist in their successful return to work. The JEIS is part of the Core LTD plan, and this plan covers all eligible members.

Core Long Term Disability

The provincial government funds the Core LTD plan, and the PEBT Board of Trustees determines the benefit level based on available funding. This plan covers all eligible members.

Other Benefits

These can include life insurance, accident insurance, other LTD, health care, and dental care coverage. The applicable collective agreements in each school board determine the terms of these benefits. The collective agreements also determine the funding of these benefits. Some school districts have other LTD coverage that tops up the government-funded Core LTD benefits. The additional components of these plans are funded by contributions made by the applicable school districts and/or members. See My Benefits to learn more about the coverage in your school district.
