Union contacts the member on day 7
Why this matters
Many members aren’t familiar with the JEIS program, so when Desjardins calls, they may hesitate to answer—mistaking it for telemarketing or a scam. Others may feel unsure about sharing personal information with someone they don’t recognize. As a result, they might miss out on valuable support that could help with their recovery and return to work. A friendly call from the union or school district can make all the difference in encouraging participation and building trust in the process.
Who should contact the member
Ideally, the union, but school district staff may do this if needed.
How should you contact members
Phone calls are usually the most effective, as members often have questions and benefit from a real-time, supportive conversation.
Let them know they’ve been referred to JEIS, and explain that it’s a supportive, confidential program to assist in recovery and return to work.
What resources should you share
Let them know you will email them a JEIS video link and a JEIS Email Insert (English) (French).
To reduce member anxiety and minimize routine questions, provide a brief Absence FAQ Sheet customized for your school district and local union. We’ve compiled the most frequently asked questions based on member surveys — add your local details to make it more relevant.
